After playing three successive away fixtures in Cardiff, Canterbury and London, Gloucestershire will be delighted to return to their home ground for this Friday-night local derby against Somerset. The hosts come into this match in sixth place in the South Group.
After winning a closely fought low-scoring clash against Glamorgan in Cardiff on Thursday evening, Gloucestershire’s batters will be looking forward to a better batting surface in this game. They will be looking for more runs from their top four though as they only contributed 25 runs in the last match.
Although this is likely to be a tougher bowling pitch than any of the last three games, left-arm fast medium bowler Matt Taylor is in fine form and he will be a threat throughout the innings. Alongside Marchant de Lange and David Payne, Gloucestershire have a strong pace bowling unit.
Gloucestershire are unbeaten in their last three games after a tie and two successive victories.
Miles Hammond, Cameron Bancroft, Beau Webster, James Bracey (wk), Jack Taylor (c), Graeme van Buuren, Matt Taylor, Ben Charlesworth, David Payne, Marchant de Lange, Josh Shaw
Not only top of the South Group, but in fine form and after thrashing Glamorgan by 108 runs in their last game, Somerset will make the short journey up the M5 to Bristol full of confidence and looking to inflict their sixth successive defeat on Gloucestershire in this format.
It doesn’t always come off for opener Will Smeed but when it does he looks like one of the best white ball batters in the world and the game against Glamorgan was one of those occasions. Somerset have a powerful top order as well as Craig Overton and Roelof van der Merwe down the order who can hit the ball very cleanly.
It was only spinner Ben Green who went wicketless in the big win in the last game but it could be a tougher experience for the bowling attack in this match in Bristol. However, with plenty of experience and specialist white ball bowlers, Gloucestershire’s batters will have to be careful, particularly when they first come to the crease.
Somerset are in excellent form and are looking for their fifth successive victory in the tournament.
Tom Banton (wk), Will Smeed, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Tom Abell, Sean Dickson, Lewis Gregory (c), Ben Green, Craig Overton, Roelof van der Merwe, Riley Meredith, Jake Ball
Gloucestershire are in good form and will be backed by a big home crowd but they are up against a very strong Somerset side who have individuals playing at the top of their games. We are predicting a competitive fixture but are backing Somerset to win.
